GOD’S WILL IN HIS COMMANDMENTS

Don Barrett

Much of God’s will for our life is spelled out in his commandments.

These are the words of Moses after he delivered the Ten Commandments.

Deuteronomy 5:32,33So you shall observe to do just as the Lord your God has commanded you ; you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left.  You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.  (KJV)

A Pharisee, an expert in the law, asked Jesus which is the greatest commandment in the Law.

Matthew 22:37 – 40 And He said to him, “’YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’   This is the great and foremost commandment.  “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” (NASB)

At the Last Supper Jesus said,

John 13:34, 35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love another.” (NIV)

Father, help me to obey your commands, to love you with my full devotion, to love my neighbor as myself, and to love my brothers and sisters in Christ as you love me.
